The Rose Pink city founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II (1693-1743), is the capital of Rajasthan. It is a major attraction for the first-time visitor. Jaipur, is surrounded on all sides by rugged hills, crowned with forts & enclosed by embattled walls.

Places of Tourist Interest

Amber Fort: The Amber Fort is one of the famous and beautiful forts of Rajasthan. It is an ideal amalgamation of Hindu and Muslim architecture, Raja Man Singh built it in the 16th century. One can enjoy the ramparts of the fort on elephant back and the snaking pathways.

Jaigarh Fort: The fort marks the victory and was built by Sawai Jai Singh in 1726. Huge battlements with inside walkways surround it. Jaivan, the world’s largest canon on wheel is also found here. It provides a panoramic view of Jaipur city and the Amber Fort.

Nahargarh Fort: Jai Singh II built Nahargarh Fort or the Tiger Fort in 1734. The fort also offers fabulous city view of Jaipur and the direct view of the shimmering waters of the Man Sagar Lake. One can enjoy sunset view of Jaipur from here.

The Albert Hall Museum: Designed in the Indo Sarcenic style of architecture by Sir Swinton Jacob, the Albert Hall presents an exquisite collection of decorative wares, sculptures, paintings, natural history specimen and Egyptian mummy and the celebrated Persian carpet.

The City Palace of Jaipur: The City Palace is an architectural marvel that presents perfect blend of Rajasthani and Mughal art and architecture. The City Palace has projecting balconies, arches and the entrances. The palace covers one-seventh of the area in Jaipur. The City Palace also has a museum with an exclusive collection of Rajasthan costumes, miniature paintings, carpets and royal paraphernalia.

Jantar Mantar: Sawai Jai Singh who also built the five observatories in India built the largest stone observatory in the world, Jantar Mantar. Its complex instruments are excellent for predicting the figures related to the Indian astronomy.

Hawa Mahal: The Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds is the major landmark in Jaipur, which was built in 1799 AD. This five-storied building hued in pink has the well-arched semi-octagonal windows.

Popular Eating Joints

Suvarna Mahal: Literally means the Palace of Gold. The high ceiling has breathtaking Florentine style paintings, while large gilt framed mirrors on the sides add depth to the hall. Panels of silk span the breadth of the walls and majestic chandeliers envelop the room with a golden glow. The setting of the dining hall conjures up images of its fantastic past and every meal is a tribute to royalty. This extra ordinary restaurant is at hotel Rambagh Palace.

Peshawari: A top-of-the-line signature and specialty restaurant serving the popular North-West Frontier cuisine, a true gastronomical experience for the connoisseur. The restaurant is a part of another 5* Deluxe property i.e. Rajputana Sheraton. 

Niros: Located on the Mirza Ismail Road this restaurant is a good choice to have the South Indian food at a reasonable price.  The service is extra ordinarily good.

Four Seasons: Popular for North-Indian vegetarian cuisine the food here is too good. 

Shopper’s Stop

Shop till you drop is a phrase fit for Jaipur. Jaipur has many indigenous unique arts and crafts, so many that it may be impossible to collect all of them. Some of them are:

Gems and Jewellery. Jaipur is world leader in cut and polished semiprecious stones.

Blue Pottery made from locally mined white clay.

Hand block printed textiles.

Tie and dye fabrics (Bandhani)

Popular places to shop are Johari Bazaar and its lanes, M.I.Road, Khazane walon ka Rasta, Maniharon ka Rasta and Bapu Bazaar. Several emporiums and boutiques are spread all over the city. The best way to shop is to walk, explore and bargain.
